Paperback | Physical Book - Signed Copies & Personal Notes Available
In Sacrificial Girl, I share my story of surviving ten years of childhood sexual abuse and growing up with an abusive, alcoholic parent. For much of my life, I carried the weight of secrets that were never mine to hold, sacrificing my own childhood and happiness to protect others.
This memoir is not about graphic detail.
It is about survival, resilience, and reclaiming identity.
Through acceptance, inner strength, and a refusal to let trauma define my future, I began to heal and rebuild my life. Along the way, I faced many of life’s hardest challenges, supporting a child through serious illness, anorexia, and suicide attempts; the loss of a stillborn baby; and multiple surgeries for cancer. Each experience shaped my understanding of pain, compassion, and what it truly means to keep going.
Despite everything, I chose to turn suffering into purpose.
This book also gives voice to others.
Dexter, who escaped abuse in Gambia and became part of our family in the UK, shares his own words and journey. Kerri, who experienced abuse from her mother, contributes poems written during her healing, raw, honest, and deeply moving.
At its heart, Sacrificial Girl is about breaking silence and reclaiming power.
You are not alone.
You are not broken.
And what happened to you does not define who you become.
“I am not what happened to me. I am what I chose to become.”
